Canada capped the immigration pathway for Afghans since the program’s launch
The Government of Canada was going to accept a maximum of 2,500 Afghan nationals who helped Canada’s military in Afghanistan when it announced the special immigration pathway for Afghans. But that figure has not been made public for more than a year. Then the cap has gradually been increased over several months and made public when the temporary policies providing its legal foundation were published more than a year after the program was launched. Immigration lawyers called this gap “inexplicable.”

International students increase the share in college postgraduate credential programs
According to Statistics Canada’s new report published on September 12, 2022, international students, especially those from India, increased the share of international students in college postgraduate credential programs tenfold from 1,800 to 17,700 between 2017-2019. The report explains that immigration to Canada and obtaining permanent residency were likely the main reasons driving the boom in the number of foreign students enrolling in these programs. Eighty percent of International students studying in Canada gained permanent residency within five years of graduation.
