In-Canada Asylum Program

This program is meant for people already in Canada who have a well-founded fear of going back to their country. The reasons that could make you eligible for this program are a fear of persecution, a risk of torture and cruel or unusual punishment in their country.

However, some people will not be able to participate in this program if they:

  • have been convicted of serious criminal offenses
  • were previously denied a refugee claim by Canada

Canada and its citizens are proud to be compassionate and fair. They demonstrate these values in the Resettlement Assistance Program. This program is meant for refugees (people who are force to flee). Every year, Canada takes in around 1 out of 10 refugees. Canada’s program has an international reputation because it leads to a permanent residence in the country.

When Canada selects a refugee to welcome, the government also provides a variety of services to help with resettlement. The Resettlement Assistance Program (RAP) provides essential and immediate services for the first six weeks. There are also many private sponsors that are willing to help emotionally and/or financially.
