Ottawa updated the guidance for Super Visa holders
On July 28, 2022, the Government of Canada updated the guidance for the multiple entry temporary resident visa (TRV) for parents and grandparents. According to the update, super visa holders’ each entry to Canada should be for a duration of up to 5 years. The super visa is a 10-year multiple-entry TRV that is open to eligible applicants for up to 10 years and has authorized stays of up to 5 years for each entry. The changes to the program came into force on July 4, 2022, and were made in compliance with the authority granted in subsection 15(4) of the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act (IRPA).

Immigration Ministers discussed the future of Canada’s immigration system
On July 28, 2022, the Forum of Ministers Responsible for Immigration (FMRI) discussed ways to utilize the immigration system more effectively to satisfy economic and regional demands. Ministers discussed strategies for maximizing the efficiency of the immigration system. The FMRI also emphasized the importance of reducing immigration processing times and agreed that future short-term measures should be in line with longer-term objectives. Additionally, the Ministers considered methods to meet regional demands and boost immigration to Canada’s smaller and rural or remote regions by mapping economic and settlement resources across the country.

Ontario invited 2 candidates under the Employer Job Offer: Foreign Worker Stream
On July 28, 2022, the Government of Ontario held a new draw in the Employer Job Offer: Foreign Worker Stream (EJO FW) Stream of the Ontario Immigrant Nominee Program (OINP). In this draw, the province issued 2 targeted invitations to apply (ITAs) to candidates who may qualify for the federal Economic Mobility Pathways Project (EMPP). All invitees have their profiles created in the Express Entry system between July 27, 2021, to July 27, 2022. The minimum score for this draw has not been indicated. In total, OINP issued invitations to 12,243 candidates in 2022, including 1,529 EJO FW applicants.

Sudbury issued new invitations under the RNIP
On July 28, 2022, the City of Greater Sudbury published the results of the new draws conducted under the Rural and Northern Immigration Pilot (RNIP). According to the update, on July 15, 2022, Sudbury invited 1 candidate with a minimum score of 350. In addition, on July 27, 2022, the city held 2 draws. In the first draw, Sudbury invited 1 candidate with a score of 330. In the second draw, the city invited 7 applicants who had a score of 245 and above. In total, the community invited 80 candidates since the start of the RNIP in Sudbury.
