Ottawa held a new all-program Express Entry draw
On September 19, 2023, Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) issued 3,200 Invitations to Apply (ITA) to candidates under the Express Entry draw #263. In this draw, IRCC invited candidates under all immigration programs. In the latest round of invitations, the cut-off score was 531 points, 35 points more than in the previous all-program draw. The tie-breaking rule for this round was September 12, 2023, at 12:16:31 UTC. As of September 19, 2023, there are 216,035 profiles registered in the Express Entry pool. In 2023, Canada issued 80,948 ITAs through the Express Entry draws.

Ontario invited Masters Graduate and PhD Graduate streams candidates
On September 19, 2023, the Ontario Immigration Nominee Program (OINP) issued 537 invitations to apply (ITAs) for the Masters Graduate stream. The minimum score of this round was 41 points, three points fewer than it was in the previous draw. In addition, on September 19, 2023, Ontario also invited 71 candidates under the PhD Graduate Stream. The minimum score for this draw was 40 points. The profiles of selected candidates were created between November 22, 2022, and September 19, 2023. In total, this year, the province invited 32,927 candidates through the OINP.

British Columbia issues 225 invitations to skilled candidates under the BCPNP
On September 19, 2023, the Government of British Columbia held new invitation draws under the British Columbia Provincial Nominee Program (BCPNP) and invited qualified Skills Immigration candidates. In the general draw, BC invited 147 candidates. The minimum score for candidates invited in this draw was 89-111 points. The province issued 51 ITAs to candidates under the childcare-targeted draw for early childhood educators (NOC 42202). In the Healthcare-targeted draw, BC invited 27 candidates who scored 60 points. In total, British Columbia issued 225 ITAs in this draw. This year, British Columbia has already invited 7,643 candidates.

Canada welcomed over a thousand Afghan refugees
On September 19, 2023, the Government of Canada made an update regarding the Afghan refugees arriving in the country. The last update shows Canada has accepted 1,185 Afghan refugees since August 23, 2023. As of now, Canada has welcomed a total of 37,875 Afghan refugees. Canada received 19,650 Afghans and their families’ applications under the Special Immigration Measures Program for Afghans who had assisted the Government of Canada in Afghanistan. 11,715 Afghans arrived in Canada under that program, and 19,575 Afghan nationals came under the Humanitarian program. In addition, Canada admitted 2,485 applicants under the pathway for extended family members of former interpreters.
