Canada will switch to 100% online applications for permanent residence
On September 1, 2022, the Government of Canada announced that starting on September 23, 2022, Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) will start transitioning to 100% digital applications for most permanent residence programs. The Permanent Residence Portal provides an online application option for some clients since March 31, 2021. This generates more flexibility to apply from various devices and receive immediate confirmation that the application was successful. The portal is still expanding and is open to most permanent residence program applicants.

Saskatchewan invited 941 candidates under the SINP
On September 1, 2022, Saskatchewan conducted new rounds of invitations in the Saskatchewan Immigrant Nominee Program (SINP). In the Express Entry category, Saskatchewan issued 312 ITAs. Another 629 invitations were issued to the Occupations In-Demand category candidates. The lowest score in both categories was 61 points, 4 points fewer than it was in the previous draw. All invited candidates had Educational Credential Assessments. In this draw, Saskatchewan invited candidates under 10 different NOCs. This year, Saskatchewan has already invited 6,492 candidates.

IRCC conducts an online survey to examine newcomers’ settlement experiences
On September 1, 2022, Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) announced an online survey that the Government conducts on newcomer experiences using online settlement services. The survey is voluntary and confidential and aims to help IRCC understand the efficiency of settlement services and the need for improvement programs and services. The survey started on August 23, 2022, and will end on September 13, 2022. All newcomers who used settlement services and are 18 years and older are encouraged to complete the survey which is available in English, French, Chinese, Arabic, Tigrinya, and Farsi.

Canada will continue to contribute to the asylum system in the Americas
On September 1, 2022, the Government of Canada announced that Canada will continue to support vulnerable people in having access to safety. Canada’s commitment to succeed in the Comprehensive Regional Protection and Solutions Framework (MIRPS) will help it maintain its position as a leader in asylum system development for Central America and Mexico. Canada will continue to aid in capacity building of the asylum system, among other protective measures. In support of MIRPS, Sean Fraser, Minister of Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC), highlighted Canada’s support for the United Nations Refugee Agency (UNHCR) and announced 3 capacity-building projects over the next 2 years.
