Canada now offers Open Work Permit for victims of family violence
Beginning July 26, 2019, newcomers and their minor children who experience family violence will be able to apply for a fee-exempt temporary resident permit that will give them legal immigration status and includes a work permit and health care coverage. The temporary resident permits to family violence victims can be issued for a period of six months and more. The main goal of this decision is to provide protection for vulnerable foreign nationals who are victims of family violence or impacted by it, by regularizing their status in Canada, when appropriate.

What does recent data from IRCC show for Express Entry applicants?
According to recent data from Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC), almost 82,000 applications are in the Express Entry pool from people who have at least 401 points and above. This means it will not be easy for a candidate to qualify if they’re in the race with these 82,000 applicants. There are almost 45,000 applicants in the pool who have 350 – 400 points. In total, 120,000 applicants are there in the pool, while the government will accept only 90,000 applications for this year. It is time for candidates with low scores, including international students, to think about what options they have to enhance their scores and increase their chances of immigration. Foreign nationals with a Master’s degree and good scores on the IELTS have the best chances to qualify for immigration.
