Canada issued more than 4,000 ITAs for CEC candidates in Express Entry
On May 13, 2021, Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) held a new Express Entry draw for candidates in the Canadian Experience Class (CEC) Program. In round #187, Canada issued 4,147 Invitations to Apply (ITA) for permanent residence and the lowest score was 401 points, one point more compared to round #185. The tie-breaking rule for this round was April 29, 2021 at 11:48:14 UTC. In total, IRCC already issued 66,475 invitations to apply in seventeen draws of Express Entry. 62,855 ITAs were issued for candidates in the CEC Program.

OINP issued 4,009 nomination certificates in 2021
On May 13, 2021, the government of Ontario published a new update on the issuance of nomination certificates within the framework of the Ontario Immigrant Nominee Program (OINP). So far, Ontario nominated 4,009 candidates, 1,135 certificates of nomination more compared to the previous update on April 8. In 2020, Ontario invited 16,976 candidates and nominated 8,050 foreign nationals, including 7,249 spouses and dependent children.

Ontario’s 2021 Nomination Allocation
On May 13, 2021, the Ontario government announced its 2021 nomination allocation from the federal government that the province can issue to immigrants through the Ontario Immigrant Nominee Program (OINP). The federal government has allocated 8,350 spots to Ontario, as well as an additional 250 nominations specifically for temporary foreign workers in intermediate skilled occupations – National Occupation Classification (NOC) Skill Level C). Thus, in total, Ontario received 8,600 nominations for 2021. In 2020, 16,976 new immigrants immigrated through Ontario’s provincial program.

Canada will grant permanent residence to the family members of Canadian victims of recent air disasters
On May 13, 2021, the Government of Canada has published a public policy that helps to facilitate the granting of permanent residence (PR) to some of the members of Canadian victims of Ukrainian and Ethiopian air disasters, as a result of which, many Canadian citizens and permanent residents of Canada died. Eligible applicants have to submit their application for PR until May 11, 2022. PR will be granted to the victim’s family members who are currently in Canada. Those who are outside Canada and an announcement will be made once those measures are in place.

Ontario has updated application processing times in the OINP
On May 13, 2021, Ontario has updated the average processing time in the Ontario Immigrant Nominee Program (OINP). As of now, the processing time in Ontario’s Master Graduates Stream is 30-60 days. For Express Entry French-Speaking Skilled Worker Stream, Express Entry Human Capital Priorities Stream, and Ph.D. Graduates Stream the processing time is 60-90 days. As for Ontario’s Employer Job Offer Foreign Worker and Employer Job Offer International Student Stream, it is 90-120 days. The processing time for applications in Ontario’s Express Entry Skilled Trades Stream and Finally, in the Employer Job Offer In-Demand Skills, take 120-150 days to process. The Expression of Interest (EOI) Assessment in the Entrepreneur Stream requires less than 30 days, while the application processing depends on the complexity of the business nomination application.
