Canada introduced new IRCC Sex and Gender Client Identifier Policy
On August 9, 2021, Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) published the new IRCC Sex and Gender Client Identifier Policy that is based on the Treasury Board Secretariat’s Policy Direction to Modernize the Government of Canada’s Sex and Gender Information Practices. The Policy aims to set out how an applicant’s sex and gender information will be collected, recorded, and displayed in the administration of IRCC programs as well as to minimize the risk of infringing the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms (Charter) and the Canadian Human Rights Act (CHRA).

Ontario opened the Masters Graduate and PhD Graduate Streams
On August 9, 2021, the Government of Ontario announced that the Ontario Immigrant Nominee Program (OINP) opened the Masters Graduate and PhD Graduate Streams. The province will keep the expression of interest (EOI) system open throughout the year and eligible applicants can register an EOI at any time. To apply for the program, applicants must access the OINP e-Filing Portal directly from the Masters Graduate and PhD Graduate Streams’ page on the OINP website by clicking on the button ‘Submit an application.’

Manitoba nominated 934 candidates in June and July 2021
On August 9, 2021, the Manitoba Provincial Nominee Program (MPNP) published new nomination issuance statistics. In June 2021, the province nominated 514 skilled workers, 1 business candidate, and approved 2 business concepts. In July, MPNP nominated 419 skilled workers. Manitoba refused 1 business concept in June. The province also refused 1 profile of skilled worker and 1 business concept in July. MPNP invited 1,300 skilled workers, 3 business candidates and approved 11 business concepts in June, while in July it sent LAAs to 1,791 skilled workers, 3 business candidates, and approved 5 business concepts. MPNP received 470 applications from skilled workers and 1 application from a business candidate in June and 626 applications from skilled workers and 1 application from a business candidate in July. In total, MPNP nominated 3,033 foreign nationals, including 238 nominees from Express Entry in 2021.

Saskatchewan still has 707 spots for international graduates under the SINP
On August 9, 2021, Saskatchewan updated the number of spots remaining through the Saskatchewan Immigrant Nominee Program (SINP) for international graduates in the framework of the temporary immigration policy. The provincial government has allocated 1,000 spots for direct submission of a nomination application for those who resided in the province on September 1, 2020, and has completed an academic program in the province. Since the last week, the province has accepted 17 applications, and 707 spots remain available. SINP updates this data every Monday. Since the launch of the program, SINP has accepted 293 applications from international graduates.

Canada reopened borders for fully vaccinated Americans
On August 9, 2021, after midnight, Canada reopened state borders with the United States to all fully vaccinated Americans who met specific entry requirements and had received the full dose of Canada-accepted vaccine at least 14 days prior to entering Canada. All travellers have to submit their travel information on ArriveCAN. Although these fully vaccinated travellers are not required to quarantine upon arrival to Canada, they still must provide a quarantine plan. The next step of the re-opening of the borders is scheduled for September 7, 2021.
