On June 18, 2021, the Minister of Public Safety and Emergency Preparedness Bill Blair wrote in a tweet that Canada will extend travel restrictions on non-essential international travel until July 21st, 2021. This also means that the US – Canada border will also remain closed. In addition, the minister also announced that ‘the government is planning measures for fully vaccinated Canadians, Permanent Residents, and others who are currently permitted to enter Canada and will provide further details on Monday, June 21.’

MPNP issued 141 invitations to apply for the nomination of Manitoba
On June 17, 2021, Manitoba conducted a new draw in the Manitoba Provincial Nominee Program (MPNP). In round #119, Manitoba invited 95 candidates in the Skilled Workers in Manitoba stream. The lowest score of those who received a Letter of Advice to Apply (LAA) was 430, 55 points more compared to draw #118. As for the Skilled Workers Overseas Stream, the province invited 24 individuals, and the lowest score to get the LAA was 703, the same as it was in the previous round. In addition, MPNP invited 22 candidates in the International Education Category. Of those 141 invited in this round, 10 candidates had valid Express Entry profiles. In 2021, Manitoba already invited 3,705 individuals under the MPNP, including 1,023 Express Entry candidates.

Prince Edward Island issued 113 invitations under the PEI PNP
On June 17, 2021, Prince Edward Island conducted a new invitation round in the Prince Edward Island Provincial Nominee Program (PEI PNP). In the sixth round of the year, the province issued 101 invitations to apply to skilled workers in the Labour Impact and Express Entry streams. PEI also invited 12 candidates to the Business Work Permit Entrepreneurs stream. The lowest score for business candidates was 60 points, twenty points fewer than in the May draw. In total, Prince Edward Island issued 906 invitations in 2021, including 89 invitations to business candidates. The next PEI PNP draw is scheduled for July 15, 2021.

Canada will welcome more refugees in 2021
On June 18, 2021, the Government of Canada announced 3 new initiatives to offer asylum to more people, welcome more refugees through new channels, and support them through community sponsorship. Refugee claimants can apply for asylum through Economic Mobility Pathways Pilot, Private Sponsorship of Refugees Program, and Protected persons Canada pathways. In 2021, almost 17,900 protected persons received permanent residency in Canada. This year, the Government increased the quota for protected persons from 23,500 to 45,000, which allows the country to welcome more asylum seekers.
