Canada admitted 57,365 immigrants through the Express Entry
According to the new figures by IRCC, from January to October 2020, Immigration Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) finalized the processing of 57,365 permanent resident applications through the Express Entry. 22,875 immigrants (39.9%) were processed through the Federal Skilled Worker Program (FSW); 21,440 applicants were granted PR status under the Canadian Experience Class (CEC); 12,490 cases were processed through the Express Entry-aligned streams of the Provincial Nominee Program (PNP), and 560 newcomers immigrated through the Federal Skilled Trades Program (FST). Most of these cases were submitted to IRCC before the introduction of travel restrictions due to COVID-19. Therefore, these numbers don’t reflect the practice IRCC adopted from March to August, when most of the invitees qualified either under the CEC or PNP. The next year’s data may show the increase of PR admissions under these two programs.

International Education counsellors are waiting for next year’s enrollment
Although students’ plans to study abroad this year dropped due to the Covid-19 outbreak, education experts are looking forward to welcoming students next year. Despite the spread of Covid-19, the application process for the 2021 academic year at foreign universities has already started. Tens of thousands of international students choose countries such as Canada, the UK, and Australia. In Canada, the intakes for May and September have started. Many educational institutions in Canada have developed quarantine programs for students in accordance with security measures by Health Canada. The number of admissions is relatively low but is expected to increase in the coming months.
