British Columbia invited 165 Skilled Immigration and Tech candidates
On July 19, 2022, the Government of British Columbia issued new invitations under the British Columbia Provincial Nominee Program (BCPNP) and invited qualified Skills Immigration candidates and Tech workers. In the Tech-targeted draw, BC issued 139 invitations, with a minimum score of 85 points. In the Childcare-targeted draw for early childhood educators (NOC 4214), the province invited 18 candidates. In the Healthcare-targeted draw, BC invited 8 candidates. The lowest score of those candidates was 60 points. In total, the province invited 165 candidates. In 2022, British Columbia has already issued 4,917 invitations including 2,053 candidates under the BCPNP Tech.

Canada’s immigration backlog has increased by 300,000 in six weeks
Canada’s immigration applications continue to be a significant problem, with more than 2.7 million people waiting for their applications to be processed. This is up by almost 300,000 individuals over the previous six weeks. Over the last year, the backlog has increased nearly two times and tripled since the pandemic began. As of July 15, 2022, there were 444,792 citizenship applications, 514,116 permanent residence applications, 51,616 Express Entry applications, and 1,720,123 temporary residence applications in the inventory.

BCPNP invited up to five candidates under the Entrepreneur Stream
On July 19, 2022, British Columbia held a new draw for business candidates in the British Columbia Provincial Nominee Program (BC PNP). In the Base Category of the Entrepreneur Stream, BC PNP invited up to 5 candidates. The lowest score of this round was 111 points, 1 point more compared to the previous draw. The maximum number of possible points in the Entrepreneur Stream grid is 200. 120 points candidates can get for self-declared factors such as Experience & Ownership, Net Worth, Investment, etc. Another 80 points are given for the business concept. This year, the province invited up to 28 entrepreneurs under the BCPNP.

More Afghan refugees arrived in Canada
On July 15, 2022, the Government of Canada made a new update regarding the Afghan refugees arriving in the country. According to the last update, Canada has accepted 275 more Afghan refugees since June 30, 2022. As of now, Canada has welcomed a total of 16,645 Afghan refugees. The Government of Canada aimed to bring at least 40,000 Afghan nationals to Canada through special programs for Afghan refugees, as well as via the special immigration program for Afghan nationals who assisted Canadian forces in Afghanistan.
